Experience

I have experience as an independent tutor working with individual students in their home and at local libraries. In the past, I have tutored students after-school at my work site in small group settings and worked briefly for Sylvan Learning Center. This is my 14th year teaching primary grades. I have taught all grades from Kindergarten through 4th grade and am comfortable assisting students with mastering their benchmarks related to the Common Core Standards. I have taken numerous course work and participated in professional development opportunities related to Phonemic Awareness, elementary math strategies, science inquiry techniques, writing techniques, and educating the gifted& talented student. For adult learners looking pursue a career in education, I have been a Praxis teacher assessment scorer for over 5 years. If you need assistance with studying for this exam, I am willing to help you. As a classroom teacher, I understand that students do not learn at the same pace therefore some students need more practice after regular school hours. For this reason, I felt a need to begin tutoring students so that I can assist children who may need additional help. Too many times students who can not learn all the concepts taught within a school day end up in the process for special education services or being placed in Title 1 programs when they only needed additional help beyond the school day.
